Drivers Education

My second son has just started Drivers Ed at the High School. Listening to him talk about the rules of the road, and all that they are learning in class, has stirred up memories of my own experience. I was terrified to drive on the road. I loved driving on the range where everyone went nice and slow. I was scared of the freeway and petrified of parallel parking. But, I survived as we all do and I LOVED the freedom that came with driving a car. I volunteered to go to the store for my mom and drive my brother anywhere just so I could drive. Oh, to be sixteen again, new license in hand and that feeling of being free...

Paperwork

You may be surprised that as a mother you have a lot of paperwork. Over the past month I have signed so many notes and permission slips that it puts a cramp in my hand just thinking about it. Here are a few of the papers I have signed:
  • Permission to go to La Caille
  • Young Women's Camp (2)
  • Oakcrest Camp
  • Iron Chef Activity (3)
  • Baseball Registration
  • Driver's Ed Disclosure
  • Computer Tech Disclosure
  • Trek Permission Slips (2)
  • Tool Day Permission
  • Boy Scout Camp Permission
  • Planner (every day)
  • Track Choice Papers
Running a family is like running a business and it includes lots of paperwork!

New Jobs

Today at work we were training a new person to work at the front desk. I remember being in that same position and feeling like I would NEVER remember all the stuff I needed to know. It made me feel good that I actually do remember and (I think) do a good job. That first day at a new job is always so overwhelming and it makes you want to throw in the towel and never go back. Thankfully, we usually stick it out, learn what we need to, and eventually feel good about the job we are doing.

I got called into work at the last minute and threw this outfit together in a flash. It is kind of dull, but I got lots of compliments on my necklace. Thank goodness for accessories to spice up otherwise dull outfits :)

Missionaries

Two cute Elders spoke in our ward today. One of the missionaries has only been out of the MTC for five days. As I sat next to my 18 year-old son and thought about how in a few short months he will be sending in his own mission papers, my heart ached to think about sending him far from home to serve the Lord. I am proud of the fact that he has the desire to dedicate two years of his life to serve, but my heart is sad because I know how hard it will be for me. I will miss him more than I can even express.

Kindness

I was able to attend the Young Women's General Conference with my daughter for the first time. It was fun to attend this event with her and I look forward to doing this every year. The talks that were give were wonderful, but Sister Cook's words really made me want to take action. She challenged all of us to be more kind. She challenged us to step out of our comfort zone and perform acts of kindness for those we love and for anyone else that we pass by during the day. I am going to take on this challenge, sometimes I am scared to reach out to those around me, because I fear rejection. But I really want to be more kind and so I am going to take on this challenge, I hope you will join me.

Runnin' Round

I just have to complain for a moment. I hate, I mean hate taking my car to the shop to have the emissions and inspection done. It is bad enough when I have to take my car in because something is wrong, but to take it in when it's running fine, no thanks. I miss having a car and the place I take it is so slooow, they usually have my car for days! Unfortunately it is the only dealer in town, so I don't have a choice when I need warranty stuff done. Today I spent the day doing a bunch of running around, because tomorrow, I will be car less...

Time and Money

Today I was out running about a billion errands before I had an appointment. I had about 20 min. before I had to head over there and I thought, I will just pop into Old Navy for a min. and see what is new. I browsed a bit before finding my way to the clearance section (always a fav!) They had racks of cute clothes marked down! I was so excited, so I dove in looking for a great find. I didn't have a lot of time so I had to go quickly, I usually like to have lots of time to peruse these racks. Why is it when I have lots of time, nada. No time? Tons of great stuff, but no time to look! It's this way with money too. If I go out shopping with cash in hand ready to buy, I usually can't find anything I like. If I am broke, I find the best stuff. I guess it's just Murphy's law...

I did however find this cute jacket. I have had it on my wish list for awhile. It was $44.50, to rich for my blood for one jacket. I found it on clearance and I had a coupon for 30% off. I scored it for $17.50. Pretty good score for a 20 min shopping stop, Go Me!

My Favorite Gals

Today I got to have lunch with two of the most amazing ladies in my life. My mom and my sister. These two ladies have truly shaped me into the person I am today. I look up to them both so much and the things they have taught me through my life are invaluable. I love them both and I am excited about our new tradition of lunch on Mondays!

My daughter took pictures of me today and they are quite silly, but I thought they were fun. Besides the wind was blowing so bad today, my hair was all over the place. I figured I would just embrace the crazy!

Wait Just a Minute...

Today is the first day of spring, so I sprang out of bed (okay, I rolled out with a thud) and peeked out the window expecting to see sunshine, singing birds, and newly bloomed flowers...what did I see? SNOW! Utah is very cruel in the winter, sunshine and then snow, sunshine, snow, sunshine, snow...you get the idea.
My thoughts of wearing flowing summer skirts and sandals was put on hold as I dug out my sweater and thick winter tights. Spring, where are you? Please get here soon!

And so it begins...

My daughter is on a competitive dance team and from today on we will be spending every other Saturday at dance competitions. These competitions last all day, and by that I mean we leave at 9 a.m. and get home around 7 p.m. it is really fun but it does eat up your Saturdays. It is all worth it because I love to watch my daughter dance, she is so beautiful!

As an enthusiastic supporter I, of course, will be sporting my Synergy t-shirt at all of these performances :) I will also be the one screaming and cheering for all of the Synergy teams!
